Editing a page in Helix

Admin Shortcut
To edit a page that is built in Helix - navigate to the page you wish to edit.
In Firefox press Alt+Shift+a at the same time.
In Internet explorer press Alt+Shift+a at the same time and then press enter afterwards (Note: do not press enter at the same time as the other keys).
The first time you do this you will have to login.

Save Changes
For changes to take place, you must save what you have done. Up the top of the edit page there are links to:
Save | Delete | New Child | Back

Save: Click save for your changes to take effect.

Delete: Deletes the page completely.

New Child: Creates a new page with the current page you are editing as the parent

Back: Takes you back to content administration

Additional save options
Note under these buttons there are also radio buttons:
Back to content - View after saving - Return to edit - Rebuild URLs
Which ever radio button is selected is what will happen once 'save' is clicked.

Back to content: Takes you back to content administration area

View after saving: Takes you to see the page you just saved

Return to edit: Saves your changes but remains in page edit for further changes.

Rebuild URLs: Whenever a URL is changed, helix must rebuild URLs before that change will take effect. Select this option if you change a URL of the page before saving.

Creating a new page

To create a new page within helix, you must do so from within the editor of a page you want to be the 'parent'.
For main pages of a website (usually those linked to directly from homepage) you would choose the site's homepage as the parent.

Edit the parent page with the admin shortcut (alt+shift+a) and then click the 'New Page' link at the top of the editor.

Parent / Child Pages
Helix uses a Hierarchy system for many site applications. For example breadcrumbs.

Helix breadcrumbs will appear on pages you create (Assuming you have included them in your site template).
They will appear depending on how you set up your parent/child pages.
Homepage will commonly have the breadcrumb:

Home

If you create a new page from the homepage... called "Page1" the breadcrumbs on this page will appear like:

Home > Page1

If you create a New Page from within the Page1 editor - let's call it "Page2" - the breadcrumbs will appear like:

Home > Page1 > Page2

This is one use of the Hierarchy system. Others include how automatic menus are displayed and sitemap layout.

Helix page editor - the basics

Below are descriptions of each of the fields and option in the helix page editor.

This is where the major code of the page will be displayed, usually the main content of the page depending how the template is set up (excluding columns, footer, header, etc.).

Title
This is the web page title

Heading
This will be the heading of the page (built into the template as h1).

TOC Key
This is a key that is used for internal linking of the site. Make sure you know the website’s process for creating these. They allow pages to stay linked even if URLs are changed.

URL
This is a template used by the URL engine to create the compiled URL. If you make changes to this you will need to rebuild URLs. For more, see Helix:URLs

Template
This is the template the page uses. Templates are found on the website server under /core/templates/templatename/. Put the templatename in this field to use that template for the page.

Rank
The position the webpage will appear in auto-generated menus and sitemap. 1 being highest/first.

Parent
The ID of the parent page.

Component
A component with additional code such as directory or sitemap file can be added from a list that is created elsewhere.
