Displaying Pages on the Sitemap
To manipulate the way the sitemap works you edit the individual pages of your site. Load any page in the content editor (ie, /administration/content.html?mode=2&content=1). A page will only appear in the sitemap if it is both published and tagged to be included in analysis reports. Both of these options are enabled by default, but to check the published checkbox is on the right column near the bottom. The analysis checkbox is located under the body and below the sitemap options.
Changing the Anchor Text
The sitemap will default to use the pages title as anchor text on the sitemap pages. If you want to override this then you should fill in the 'Sitemap' field in the 'Alternative Names' box. This field changes the anchor text when viewing the sitemap.
Making Sitemap Sub-Pages
Sitemap sub-pages are called Sitemap Categories. These allow you to break down the sitemap into smaller sitemap pages which help not to flood the sitemap with very large sites. To break down the sitemap, select a page in the site at which you wish to break down. Edit that page in the content editor as you have been and select 'Make Category' in the 'Sitemap' box, below the 'Alternate Names' box. When you press 'Make Category' the box will expand and give you four options. Fill in a name, this will be the anchor text for the sitemap sub-page. A description is optional, it will show in the sitemap if you enter one. The category rank allows you to specify your own order other than alphabetically. If you wish to order alphabetically, give all categories the same rank. All categories default to 50, you must have a rank. The URL is optional, but for now assume it isn't. Enter a URL-safe string that the sitemap sub-page will become. You can use directory separators if you want the sub-page to appear deeper in the website. For example, 'news' is an acceptable string, or 'news/weather' for a sub-sub-category.
Special Sitemap Categories
It is possible that your site has a special page that indexes dynamic content, and is in itself a sitemap. The news archives is an example of this. If you want your sitemap to list that page as a category, but want the link to still go to that page then you can make it a sitemap category but leave the URL field blank. This will instruct Helix to link directly to the page but still show it as a category in the sitemap listing.
Removing Sitemap Categories
To remove the a category, and restore a page to it's original state, simply remove the category name. Don't delete the rank field however, that is mandatory for all content. If you save the content page with no sitemap name, it will revert back to a normal page.
